Calcium sulfate (or calcium sulphate) is the inorganic compound with the formula CaSO4 and related hydrates. In the form of anhydrous, it is used as a desiccant. One particular hydrate is better known as plaster of Paris, and another occurs naturally as the mineral gypsum.

Application

 

Used as portland-cement retarder, tile and plaster. It is a source of sulfur and sulfuric acid. Also used in polishing powder and paints, dyeing and calico printing. It is likewise employed in zinc metallurgy. It is employed in drying industrial gases, solids and many organic liquids. In granulated form it is used as soil conditioner. Used for food additives in the soy manufacturing industry.
